Lisa Berden is Senior Counsel in the Real Estate Department at Sklar Kirsh. An accomplished real estate and business lawyer, Lisa has nearly 20 years of experience in a wide range of areas including tax-based real estate finance, commercial transactions, and corporate law. She negotiates commercial leases throughout the country for office, industrial, retail and flex space uses for multi-national companies, and has closed over $115 million in state and federal NMTC allocations across multiple states. She’s been involved in multiple public-private partnerships between private entities and state, county and local participants and closes complex commercial real estate transactions and structures tax credit financing. Lisa advises tax exempt organizations and counsels businesses with a practical perspective. She advises clients regarding national and local economic development incentives in commercial transactions and counsels small and mid-sized clients on organizational and compliance matters to support their growth and development.
Lisa graduated from Michigan State University with a B.A. in English and earned her J.D., cum laude, at Wayne State University Law School where she was Assistant Editor of the Wayne Law Review. After law school, Lisa served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Justice Marilyn Kelly and then moved to Miller Canfield Paddock & Stone where she spent two years in the tax department and nine years in the commercial real estate department. Since 2016, Lisa has operated her own law firm, Linchpin Legal PLLC.
Active in the community, Lisa serves as a Board member and Finance committee member of Advantage Health Center, a federally qualified health center. Lisa is also an avid volunteer, working with Michigan Community Resources as a Pro Bono Volunteer Counsel – COVID Clinic advising small businesses and tax-exempt organizations affected by COVID. Lisa is a current Board Member with CCIM and is actively participating in the Education Committee.
